• That point is serious, but it does not prove sole causation. Versailles helped create the emotional and political environment. It did not automatically create Nazi ideology, Nazi electoral success, Weimar collapse, conservative elite cooperation, or Hitler’s dictatorship.
• The better formulation is this: Versailles was a major precondition and propaganda weapon, but Nazism required later economic crisis, political instability, anti communist panic, authoritarian elite support, and racial ideology to become dominant.
